Hire an electric floor sander in Sheffield

One of these electric power tools can really speed up the job of sanding away years of old paint, stain, and grime from most types of wooden flooring.

They are straight forward to use and can quickly help you make wooden flooring look almost new again.

If you live in the South Yorkshire City of Sheffield (that is situated in-between Barnsley, Chesterfield, and Rotherham) you will find it is really simple to arrange the hire of one of these sanding tools.

Below we feature the best places to hire a a floor sander from in Sheffield

The most versatile machine for carrying out the sanding of wooden floors is the upright electric drum floor sander tool.

This machine is an upright sander that has a dual handle for pushing the sander across the floor area, fitted with a large rotating drum in its base that carries out the sanding work.

The rotating drum uses sandpaper sheets that you fit onto it in a loop type fashion, wrapping the abrasive paper round in a continuous loop.

Different grades of sandpaper can be used (from course grade through to fine grade) to allow you to get the desired result, and to remove any imperfections or marks that may be present in the wooden flooring that you have in your Sheffield home.

Sandpaper To Use With Your Floor Sander Machine

Most tool hire shops in Sheffield supply the required sandpaper sheets (these are supplied on a consumable sale basis) in individual numbers, allowing you the option to buy however many you need, and in the right grade. Usually your local tool hire shop in Sheffield will have sandpaper grades that vary from very coarse through to fine, allowing you to tackle all types of old flooring and achieve the desired finish.

Some of the tool hire shops also offer a sale or return basis on the sandpaper sheets, allowing you to return any that have not been needed / used - allowing you to get a refund on these.

Dealing With Marked Or Painted Floorboards

If the wooden floorboards in your Sheffield home are heavily marked or painted you would be recommended to buy more coarse paper sheets than say medium or fine grade ones when you collect (or have delivered) the drum floor sander machine.

On the other hand if your only sanding away a top layer of lacquer or a light covering of varnish you might choose to buy several medium sheets and a hand-full of fine graded ones.

Tip: Maybe buy more sanding sheets than you at first think you will need? This will avoid you having to go back to the tool hire shop to get more whilst you are in the middle of getting the job done.

Dust Collection Bags For Floor Sander Machines

When you choose to hire a drum floor sander machine in Sheffield you need to be prepared for quite a fair bit of dust being produced as the machine quickly sands away the top surface of the floor that you are restoring.

Disposable floor sander dust bags are sold on a consumable basis by all of the local tool hire shops in Sheffield, with them costing just a few pounds for a packet, and these are ideal for helping with keeping airborne dust down to a minimum whilst you carry this popular DIY job out.

One of these bags simply pushes onto the tools dust bag connection pipe, allowing fast changes when the attached dust collection bag is full up.

It can then simply be disposed of in your waste bin.

Edger Floor Sander Tool

In addition the drum floor sander machine (as featured above) you can also obtain for hire an Edger Floor Sander.

This is a different design of machine to the upright floor sander, being used just for sanding around the room in your home in the confined space next to skirting boards, door frames, and architraves that may be present.

The upright drum floor sander will not reach into the edge of a room (usually it will leave a gap of around 1.5 to 2 inches away from skirting boards), hence this tool is handy for the final sanding of that area.

If you own or have access to a conventional belt sander or a detail sander you could use that as an alternative, but choosing to hire an edger sander as well as the upright drum sander will speed up the overall job considerably.

Most tool hire outlets supply the make and model of edger sander machine that is featured below (This being a model in the Hitech range of sanders).

This is a machine that is used close to floor level and features a rotating disc which abrasive sandpaper discs are fitted to for carrying out the sanding process.

The edge of this power tool is run up against the edge of your shirting boards and door frame bottoms, allowing the sandpaper disc to sand-away the flooring area that the drum sander machine won't reach.

NB: We feel it is worth mentioning that some of the local tool hire shops in Sheffield offer a discounted rate for customers that choose to hire both the upright drum floor sander tool and the edger tool at the same time, by way of a floor sander hire package.

It is worth asking if this is something they do when you contact the relevant company of your choice.

Other Things To Consider

It is recommended that when you use one of these tools that you use a RCD Circuit Protector device / plug when connecting it to your household 240v mains supply.

An RCD will assist in maintaining a level of safety when using one of these power tools, endeavoring to cut-off the electrical supply to the tool in the event that the operator should cut through or damage its mains supply cable.

Most tool hire shops in Sheffield can supply you with one of these, or they can alternatively be purchased from most DIY shops or from an online store too.

PPE and Safetywear

The job of carrying out wooden floor sanding is one where a great deal of dust will be created. It is recommended that you wear a protective overall or at the very least some clothes that are suitable for carrying out DIY in.

In addition it would be wise to use a protective fast mask to avoid breathing in the dust that will be present in the room whilst floor sanding.

Another tip is to tray and carry the job out with one or more windows open where possible to ensure good ventilation is present.

A final tip is to occasionally have a break from using the drum sander and run a vacuum cleaner over the floor boards. This will keep the work area as clean as possible and reduce the amount of dust that is present over the length of time it takes to get the job completed.

A complete range of road sweeper hire Leeds and site sweeping services is available in the West Yorkshire City of Leeds. You can book from a choice of visits from single ad-hoc (as and when) visits up to regular contract (scheduled) cleaning of your site, new house development, excavation project, commercial or industrial premises, or most hard surface areas that are present at your property.

In addition to local construction sites in Leeds this service is appropriate for the sweeping of aggregate sites, cement handling and processing sites, builders merchants and timber yards, outdoor event venues, garage forecourts, car parks, lorry parks, and distribution centre outdoor areas, and of course the cleaning of highways, streets, and roads.

Available at cost effective rates are purpose built heavy duty road sweeping trucks (manufactured by the likes of Johnston, Stocks, and Scarab who specialise in manufacturing road sweepers) to carry out visits to all types of sites in this City, including as examples all types of aggregate sites, cement, concrete and mortar batching and filling sites, the cleaning of concrete and tarmac surfaced car parks, all types of commercial and industrial building sites, new home (house) developments, quarry sites in Leeds, large warehousing and distribution centres, retail shopping centres, and all types of locations that have hard surface areas that need cleaning.

Civil engineering, construction, and ground working businesses that are carrying out all types of work here also have a need for road sweeper hire in Leeds, especially at the early stages of a particular sites construction, or when remedial earth and ground work is being carried out.

Any mud or soil that is deposited on the road and any highways by muck shifting trucks, tippers, dumper trucks, telehandlers, and also excavators, needs to be cleaned and swept up on a regular basis to not only maintain a high level of cleanliness, but for the general health and safety of all site and road users too.

New Construction Developments In Leeds

This West Yorkshire City has had a large number of new construction developments taking place over recent years including the building of several new car sales showrooms, a multitude of fast food restaurants such as KFC and McDonald's, new retail shops including Aldi Supermarkets, Lidl Stores, and many more.

Leeds is also buoyant with many new house development sites appearing too.

All of these construction developments create a requirement for the service of road sweeping services in Leeds, both for operated vehicle hire as well as the self-drive rental of road sweeper trucks. The most popular service though is that of operated sweeper hire in Leeds..

Several of the companies that are currently carrying out new house construction in Leeds are Avant Homes, Ashcourt Homes, Barratt Homes, Bridge Homes, David Wilson Homes, Miller Homes, Persimmon Homes, Redrow Homes, Strata Homes and Stonebridge Homes,

All of these house building companies will at some time need to use the service of local Leeds road sweeper hire both directly as well as indirectly. The latter being when their appointed ground working contractors and civil engineering contractors are carrying out their specific scopes of work on the relevant new home construction site.

These trucks are also often sourced from Nationwide UK Plant Hire companies as well, who inter-hire them for their own customers that are working in this as well as other locations in Yorkshire. Sometimes they cross-hire them in on an operated basis as well as occasionally on a self drive basis. The latter being when their customers have personnel that are experienced in driving and operating a road sweeper.

Self-Drive Road Sweeper Hire Leeds

Some companies choose self drive as opposed to operated rental if they have their own road sweeper and it is not available for use at a particular time, maybe because it is off the road for routine maintenance or it is in use on another site elsewhere. A good example of this is companies that carry our road surfacing work, where a sweeper truck may be tied up for days and weeks ahead on large road surfacing projects when laying fresh tarmacadam.

Local authorities also often choose the route of self-drive rental, when the need arises to cope with seasonal requirements on highway cleaning and sweeping. Their own road sweeper trucks may be committed especially during the harsher weather months in Autumn and Winter that is experienced in Leeds in West Yorkshire.

Its not just new houses though that are being built here, other new construction developments and refurbishments currently planned are Nexus - this is a new University enterprise centre, The Majestic - this is a new office complex in this Northern UK City, the Emerald Headingley Stadium which is one of the most famous cricket grounds in the UK.

There is also Bridge Street - this is where a new hotel is to to be constructed along with apartments, shops, cafes, bars, and restaurants. Last featured is the new Wellington Place Government Hub building - this is to be a location for local NHS Direct and the HM Revenue and Customs.

Road Sweeper Hire Rates

In our view the costs to book one of these specialist vehicles is very cost effective when compared to other vehicle rental costs. A road sweeping truck can quickly use a considerable amount of diesel fuel when sweeping a typical site but an experienced driver can ensure that it is used in the most efficient and cost effective way.

The driver of the sweeper truck will have full control of not only the drive engine but also the auxiliary that is used to power items such as a trucks powerful vacuum extraction unit.

Road sweeping trucks usually have two engines in their build configuration, one being used to drive the truck, the other engine being used to power the heavy duty sweeping brushes as well as the suction components. Add these two diesel engines overall running times together and the diesel fuel costs to run a road sweeper truck can be quite high.

Most companies and operators that provide a road sweeping service in West Yorkshire though tend to offer a range of cost effective services that can without a doubt be the cheapest option of keeping a construction site or highway clean, especially on regular contract cleaning where the truck visits are scheduled for the whole time-length of a sites build period.

Car Park Cleaning Leeds

Most organisations and businesses that operate these types of trucks usually offer a service for car park cleaning in Leeds, with visits being tailored to suit the size of the individual car park as well as the physical condition of it. This is a popular service for many businesses and companies in this West Yorkshire spot including those which are retail shopping centre car parking areas, all types of factory sites, fast food drive-through restaurants and eateries, colleges, schools, and hospital ground, and general open air car parks in Leeds.

It is also a popular service for organisations and businesses that have goods and distribution warehouses where road sweeper hire can help them with the cleanliness and maintenance needs related to their transport yards.

If you are a business based in this City and need your warehouse yard cleaning or lorry bays swept, rest assured you have come to the right place for heavy duty sweeper rental!

Road Sweeper Hire

This service is one that is always in-demand all year round in this City in West Yorkshire, as it is in nearby Bradford, Dewsbury, Huddersfield, Ossett, Normanton, Pontefract, and Wakefield too. Booking the service of operated road sweeper hire Leeds is a service that can form part of your organisations overall cleaning requirements, providing where necessary all-year round cleaning to whatever the outdoor required areas are.

The service that is available throughout all of West Yorkshire is recognised as being very cost effective, especially on all types of sites and locations where health and safety standards as well as cleanliness is a key requirement, this is especially the case when it comes to providing road sweeper hire Leeds for construction site use.

Operators and companies that provide this service supply dedicated vehicles to customers  that typically search online for road sweeper hire near me as well as often searching for the keyword phrase of "road sweeper hire rates" - the latter being determined by the length of sweeper visit required, the time that the job is carried out (daytime or night time) and also the situation as regards the collected waste removal and the disposal of the collected waste.

The Waste That Is Collected By A Road Sweeper

The waste collected when road sweeping is usually inert, meaning that the waste is not biologically or chemically reactive, in basic terms it is waste that will not decompose.

Some examples of this are aggregates, sand, silt, cement, gravel, mud, and other similar materials. These materials are what is typically swept up by a road sweeping truck when it has been contracted for cleaning on local house construction sites and commercial building sites in Leeds.

This type of waste can be tipped-off if allowed on the developers own site, or taken away for disposal at a nearby licenced waste handling and management site.

Makes Of Road Sweeping Trucks Used

Most operators of this type of specialist vehicles tend to use trucks that are manufactured by either Johnston or Scarab. The Johnston brand in particular being a firm favourite with most
road sweeper operators due to its useful configurations and features that are provided when ordering from this well known UK manufacturer.

Their VT range of trucks feature "Superwash" - this being a high pressure vehicle mounted cold water pressure washer, allowing jetting-off on footpaths, driveways, for the cleaning of street furniture, and also the important areas outside show houses on new home development sites.

The pressure washer is also a big help when it comes to operators that carry out the service of car park cleaning in Leeds, being used for blasting grime and dirt out of the tight spaces that are present in most car parking areas.

The same applies if the road sweeper hire Leeds company works on behalf of local utility contractors, the jet washer is commonly used here for cleaning-down pavements and small areas on highways and roads after excavation and utility maintenance works has taken place.

The Johnston VT models also have a vacuum pipe called a Wanderhose. This is a flexible turntable mounted vacuum hose that protrudes out of the top hopper area of a road sweeper truck. It allows hand vacuuming (sucking) of a wide arc area and is also used when gully cleaning.

These two strong features are a real bonus to companies that provide sweeper hire, allowing them to offer more services to customers that have a need for their use.

On Johnston road sweeping trucks all of the operations are controlled and managed from a sophisticated control panel that is present in the drivers cab. As you would expect these vehicles also have excellent durability, allowing them to run for long periods of time when put to use on the many different types of applications and sites that can be found in this large and busy City in West Yorkshire.
