How To Sharpen A Chain > Chainsaw

Sharpening The Chain On Your Chainsaw

When the loop blade on your electric or petrol chainsaw becomes blunt through use, you have two options open to you. One is to replace the blade with a new one, the other more cost effective option is to sharpen it.

You can sharpen any chainsaws blade providing there is enough wear life still in the chain, including not only the cutting edge, but the leading profile guide of the teeth on the blade too.

The other thing to consider is the amount of time required to sharpen a chain saws blade, as if you are using a manual sharpening kit (files and template guide) this can take quite a while to go around the loop blade, sharpening each individual tooth one at a time.

Electric Chainsaw Sharpening Tool

Another option open to you is to go out and buy an electric powered chainsaw sharpening tool (they can also be purchased online as well). One of these can rapidly sharpen the teeth on your loop blade, and is an ideal purchase if you use your chainsaw frequently, such as by users including farm workers, tree surgeons, and landscapers / professional gardeners.

Interesting !:: Recently purchased a new Stihl chainsaw and out of curiosity wanted to know how to sharpen its chain (blade).

Findings: No instruction manual in it's box so returned to dealer for help. What happened next is unbelievable and cannot be faulted > dealer instantly gave me an instruction book and gave me a free chain for my inconvenience ! Top service. Stihl - you have my custom for my next hedgetrimmer as well !
